280 million people in Africa cannot read*, and illiterate learners are excluded and struggle through school
every day. Together, we can change that.
The Slice of Africa is an epic journey to boldly launch the Pizza Hut African Literacy Project, and drive literacy
on the continent. We will be traveling over 20 000kms, across 14 countries, to deliver Pizza Hut Red Reading
Boxes to the children who need them most.
Yes, we’re all about delicious pizza, but we’re also about community.
Your donations and our CSI investment can make a huge difference in Africa.

We’ve been on a mission to take our world-famous pizza across the African continent, and soon, we’ll be opening our 100th store in Sub-Saharan Africa. This means we have a powerful opportunity to use our restaurant footprint for good.
Our global initiative called Pizza Hut: The Literacy Project aims to transform the lives of 100 million people over 10 years through literacy and reading. And in Africa, we want to be a big part of that, through the African Literacy Project.
Pizza Hut Red Reading Boxes give children their very own reading kit
to get them really excited about reading. Each box is filled to the
brim with books, board games, puzzles, flashcards and things to make.
All of the items are carefully designed to help children build
literacy, from recognising words on a flashcard to picking up a book
and experiencing the sheer joy of reading.
It’s suitable for primary school learners from Grade 4, right through to those in high school.
